Dairy Operations: Sorrento, Foster Farms in the news
DAIRY OPERATIONS BRIEFS: Cheese processor Sorrento Lactalis, Buffalo, N.Y., expects by next fall to complete a $50 million expansion in Nampa, Idaho, according to The Idaho Statesman. Officials said the project will allow Sorrento to convert liquid whey (a cheese-making byproduct) into a powdered whey that can be sold. . . . Foster Farms Dairy, Modesto, Calif., said it was the winning bidder for certain assets belonging to Humboldt Creamery, a Fortuna, Calif., dairy co-op that declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April. Scheduled to close on August 26, 2009, the deal involves Humboldt Creamery's Fernbridge, Calif., plant and a frozen food distribution center in Stockton, Calif.
