Pork and turkey processing giant Smithfield Foods, Inc., Smithfield, Va., said Richard J. M. Poulson, executive vice president, will retire from Smithfield effective September 1, 2010.

Cincinnati-based John Morrell & Co. said today that it will permanently close its hog processing and fresh meat fabrication plant in Sioux City, Iowa, effective April 20, 2010.
