The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) this week released the association’s annual Global Top 25 List of its largest temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics members.

Accompanying the Global Top 25 is the GCCA North American Top 25 Warehouse Member List and a list of the largest operators in Latin America and Europe. The lists are determined by total reported capacity of temperature-controlled space in GCCA membership.

GCCA warehouse members currently own or operate 7.39 billion cubic feet (209 million cubic meters). A total capacity of over 600 million cubic feet was added to the Global Top 25 since the publication of the 2023 lists, due to M&A activity and planned new facilities opening. This does not suggest the general industry grew at this pace.

“We anticipated that the uncertainty in 2023 would slow investments in the sector, but once again cold chain has proven to be resilient in the face of adversity. GCCA Members have continued to create and grow their networks around the world, both through acquisition and greenfield developments.” said GCCA Senior Vice President, Global Programs & Insights Adam Thocher. “This year, we feature our first Top 25 player on the African continent proving cold chain industry is continuing to see strong demand and there is a continuing drive to invest in sustainable infrastructure in both established and developing economies.”

The Global Top 25 currently operates 6.67 billion cubic feet (189 million cubic meters). The North American Top 25 operates 4.7 billion cubic feet (133 million cubic meters). The European Top 10 operates 1.17 billion cubic feet (33 million cubic meters). The Latin American Top 10 operates 544 million cubic feet (15.4 million cubic meters).

Regions worldwide reported increased capacity and several new companies joined GCCA in the past year. In addition to new entrants to the list, GCCA observed significant movement across regions. Since 2023’s lists were published, the following changes occurred:

  • Global Top 25 capacity increased by 606 million cubic feet.
  • North America Top 25 capacity increased by 326 million cubic feet
  • Latin America Top 10 capacity increased by 103 million cubic feet.

GCCA membership includes over 1,500 temperature-controlled facilities and members in over 92 countries. Warehouse members offer a range of logistics solutions, including storage, transportation, processing, blast freezing, exports and more.
